A bus carrying about 50 New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters ran into a mountain at Akpafu in the Volta Region, killing one and seriously injuring many.The Benz bus, with Reg. No VR 122 was returning from the Volta Region where the supporters had attended the Akpafo Annual Festival on Saturday, February 23, 2008.It ran into the mountain after failing to negotiate a sharp curve between Akpafu-Mpeasem and Akpafu Todzi.Eyewitnesses told Joy News that some of the victims lost their limbs in the accident and were rushed to the hospital.The cause of the accident is not readily known but the driver was suspected to be driving under the influence of alcohol.The flag bearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo and other government officials attended the festival.
