An employee of Unit Control Ghana Limited in Takoradi is in the grips of the police for pouring acid in the face of his personnel manager, Julius Agyapong.
According to a source at the Takoradi Port Security, 31-year-old casual worker Micheal Kwoffie was spotted loitering around the personnel manager's office with a thermos flask and wearing a long black robe with a hood.
He is alleged to have poured the acid on Mr Agyapong as the manager went up the stairs to his office.
The Personnel Manager is currently receiving treatment at the Takoradi Hospital but doctors say he could go blind.
In a report filed by Joy News’ Western Regional correspondent Kwaku Owusu Peprah Mr Kwoffie was reportedly questioned by port security regarding the content of a flask he was entering the port with.
He told the men at the checkpoint, his flask contained his lunch. He later confessed upon interrogation by the port security and police the flask contained the acid he poured on his victim.
According to police, Kwoffie said he poured the acid on his personal manager because the manager had allegedly conspired with the country manager of the company to pay the casual workers only GH¢40 as end-of-service benefit, having worked for the company for more than five years.
The attacker has been remanded in police custody to reappear before court on November 18, 2009.
