Incarcerated Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Adamu Daramani Sakande has expressed profound gratitude to President John Mahama for granting him pardon. He was speaking exclusively to Joy News’ Manasseh Azure Awuni from his hospital bed at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Monday. Mr Daramani was granted Presidential Pardon on medical grounds by President Mahama last week after serving four months of his two years jail term. A High Court in Accra, in August this year found the Bawku Central MP guilty of false declaration of office, perjury and deceiving a public officer. He was consequently sentenced to two years' imprisonment. President Mahama however granted him presidential pardon when the former MP took ill and was admitted at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. A frail-looking Adamu Daramani, speaking with a quavering voice, said he was grateful for the pardon. "Thank you very much for providing this opportunity to me to express my profound gratitude to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for taking this bold initiative of granting me pardon..." Mr Sakande said he was looking forward to an opportunity to personally and officially go and thank the president. “…To my teeming well wishers and supporters I wish to say thanks…thank you everybody across the world...” Touching on the support he received from his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), he said: "The NPP has been so wonderful, they have been like a real family to me..." Mr Daramani, who said he is responding well to treatment, revealed he missed his children and couldn't wait to "get his life back together". He told Manasseh he will "take some time off" after he is discharged from hospital and "go to London, rest with my girls and my wife. Take a break and see how things go..." The former MP said he had much to say but would do so at the appropriate time after consultations with his advisors. He said "a merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all citizens of Ghana, particularly the people of Bawku for keeping me in their prayers and making me feel that my pain is their pain... This is a time to forgive, a time to look forward." "Ghana has got a bright future and we are passing the test with flying colours..."
