A group calling itself concerned National Democratic Congress(NDC) Youth of Afram Plains in the Eastern Region has expressed its utmost disappointment in President John Dramani Mahama for not fulfilling his promise to the people of Afram Plains in the run-up to the 2012 general elections.
In a three-page petition signed by ten branch executives from the Afram Plains NDC and addressed to the President, through the Chief of Staff dated 20th May, 2015, the group asked the President to expect a possible drop of the NDC votes in Afram Plains North and South Constituencies. This, the group assured, would also affect the Party’s agenda 50:50 in the Eastern Region and "57% votes for John Mahama".
According to the Concerned NDC Youth of Afram Plains, President John Mahama promised to construct a tarred road from Ekye to Agordeke, provide a ferry for the Agordeke-Kpando Torkor stretch of the Volta Lake, establish a College of Education, a Nursing Training College, a university and rural electrification project for Afram Plains but the people have not seen any action on these promises.
They claimed the only thing that has been done in connection to the promise is the allocation of land by the Chiefs and people of Afram Plains for the construction of the University but the NDC government has not made any move to fulfil its part of the bargain.
The group cautioned President Mahama to as a matter of urgency fulfil his promise to the people of Afram Plains or they will hit the streets. The group’s next line of action would be executed in a month’s time, the petition noted.
