The Chief Executive Officer of Consumer Protection Agency, Kofi Capito, has condemned the kind of treatment meted out to Ghanaian visa applicants by the diplomatic missions.
In an interview with Joy News, Kofi Capito also cited poor conditions and inadequate facilities such as waiting rooms to accommodate applicants.
He has, therefore, called for a mutual respect, and an immediate end to the “appalling” treatment.
Kofi Capito said the dramatic increase in visa application fees amounts to extortion.
“In terms of even monies that we pay to these embassies, it is appalling. OK look, I come to apply for a multiple visa, let say for five years or even for two years, and based on your own decision as to maybe I don’t merit a five-year visa but a two-year visa, meanwhile I have paid for a five-year visa, and then you take the money give me a two-year visa and I don’t even get the difference between the five years and the two years visa back. Is that fair?”
He said Ghanaian missions abroad treat their applicant decently, and has therefore asked the state and various stakeholders to step in to save Ghanaians from total disrespect.
“It is about Ghana, it is about people like you, your radio station we should talk on behalf Ghanaians... Diplomacy is reciprocal, the way you treat me is how I treat you.”
