Madam Akua Donkor, founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has joined the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) ahead of the December 7 general elections.
The GFP leader was disqualified from contesting the elections by the Electoral Commission (EC) after she missed the deadline for the submission of the nomination forms.
Explaining her decision to join PPP, Akua Donkor said the party is the only genuine political party that has the interest of Ghanaians at heart.
According to her, both the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have failed Ghanaians by looting the resources of the state to enrich themselves and their cronies.
The witty politician attributed the poor state of the economy to what she says is the abysmal performance of the ruling party in just three and half years.
She indicated that the PPP also shares in her vision to redeem Ghanaians from the immense hardship they are experiencing under the failed NDC government.
Akua Donkor was optimistic that her grassroot support nationwide will give the PPP a landslide victory in the December 7 polls.
Flagbearer of the PPP, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom at a press conference to officially welcome the GFP leader Wednesday, underscored the need for Ghanaians to vote for a political party which has the interest of the nation as heart and not nation wreckers.
He said the electorate must for once vote for a change on December 7 to experience an awakening in their lives and all sectors of the economy under a PPP government.
The PPP presidential candidate described Akua Donkor as a courageous woman who has defied all odds to rock shoulders with men in politics.
He noted that her inclusion into the PPP's electioneering campaign will increase the party’s chances of annexing power from the NDC.
Dr. Nduom used the opportunity to invite other disqualified presidential aspirants to give both the NDC and NPP a run for their money.
