New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Nana Adoo Danquah Akufo-Addo, last Friday paid the Togolese President, Faure Gnasingbe a snap visit at the Presidential Palace in Lome, Togo.
Accompanied by Albert Kan Dapaah, MP for Efigya-Sekyere East and Minister for Defence who is good friend of President Gnassingbe; Yaw Amankwa, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP; Victor Newman, Head of Research in the office of the candidate; Mustapha Hamid, spokesperson; and Yaw Amfo-Kwakye, Special Assistant, Nana Akufo-Addo held closed door discussions with the Togolese leader.
The visit was to enable Nana Akufo-Addo introduce himself formally as his party's presidential candidate, and also to discuss matters of common interest affecting the good relations between Ghana and Togo and the development of the West African region," a statement signed by Mustapha Hamid said.
According to the statement, the visit to the Togolese President was the beginning of a series of consultations that the NPP presidential candidate hoped to hold with other leaders of Ghana’s neighbours, the sub-region and the continent at large.
Speaking to the Togolese media after the meeting, Nana Akufo-Addo said the meeting went well and that he hoped it would serve to deepen cooperation between political players in the region.
The parley with President Gnassingbe, he said, was communicated to President J.A. Kufour before he traveled to Rome, Italy for the World Food Programme assignment.
The delegation has since returned home.
