The National Zongo's Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said the re-election of Nana Akufo-Addo as the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is a tacit endorsement of President John Evans Atta Mills for a second term.
"The about 78.89 per cent of the delegates who voted for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the August 7 primaries of the NPP implicitly implied that they believed in political traditions of continuity of leadership; it's an admission that President Mills deserved to be retained in Elecction20l2.
"The NPP delegates upheld to traditions, told the rest of the aspirants to wait for their turn. NDC Zongo Caucus is now replaying the NPP delegates message to Nana Akufo-Addo to wait in the Presidential gangway," Alhaji Yusif Captain, National Chairman of the Caucus, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra.
The NPP on August 7 held a historic Special National Delegates Elections which re-elected the party's Election 2008 Presidential Candidate Nana Akufo-Addo for Election 2012.
Speaking after a National Zongo Caucus quarterly meeting in Accra, Alhaji Captain said the Caucus had mapped up electioneering strategy towards empowering the structures for Election 2012.
"We have deliberated on the way forward for the Caucus as a potent political tool within the party, adopt measures on how to mobilise the people to counter and avoid extraneous intrusion into the Zongo communities by our opponents," Alhaji Captain, who is also the NDC Greater Accra Regional Vice Chairman, stated.
Alhaji Alhassan Bene, National General Secretary of the NDC Zongo Caucus, said the regional coordinators would table a proposal before the National Executive Committee of the party to request for voting rights at the NDC's Special National Delegates Congress.
"We want recognition as a mainstream body within the family with all rights accorded to it," he stated.
He said in view of vile propaganda initiated by other political parties against NDC, the Zongo Caucus would embark on a nationwide educational and sensitisation campaign to empower its members with facts and figures on the developmental achievement of President Mills over the past 18 months.
He said "the Caucus has zoned the country into two - Northern sector and the Southern sector, the tour starts from the Northern sector in Mid-August and Southern Sector in September."
He said it was erroneous for functionaries of the NPP to compare the 18-months rule of President Mills to the eight year rule of former President John Agyekum Kufuor and conclude that President Mills administration is a failure."
