The Akyemansa District Assembly has announced that it will offer support to a 15-year-old girl who was abused and sexually molested by a group of area boys led by her stepfather.
The incident is said to have occurred in Akyem Ofoase in the Akyemansa District of the Eastern Region.
The Assembly in a statement noted that there have been arrangements to assist the young girl with further health-related care.
“The Akyemansa District Assembly hereby informs the general public that it has taken the necessary initial steps to provide support for the 15-year old victim of an assault attack while bringing the attackers to book.
“The Assembly is grateful to all who have helped with information and other forms of support enabling us to take these early steps,” the Assembly noted.
In a video that circulated on social media, the stepfather whose name was only given as Kofi had gathered some neighbourhood boys who were seen holding canes and lashing the young girl while pouring water on her.
The act by the stepfather and the boys was in response to the young girl leaving home on Friday, May 27 and returning the next Saturday morning.
In the video, while the victim wailed uncontrollably, the boys were seen taking off her upper wear leaving her braziers on and they proceeded to forcefully take off her trousers exposing the young girl's nakedness.
They then chased her into a nearby bush and continued caning her naked body. In the process, one Paapa inserted his fingers into her private part.
On June 3, the uncle of the victim, Emmanuel Adarkwa reported the incident to the Police who then commenced investigations immediately.
The police together with the District Social Welfare Officer on June 7 had the victim examined and treated at the Akyem Brenase Polyclinic.
A manhunt is currently underway for the persons involved in the assault of the victim.
