Communications Minister Haruna Iddrisu says the construction of community information centres (CIC) is a major policy initiative of the Ministry to provide information and communication technology infrastructure and services to under-served and un-served communities.
Under the programme, all 230 constituencies are progressively being provided with a fully connected CIC, including the one at Kukuom in the Asunafo South District.
Mr Iddrisu, Member of Parliament for Tamale South, was answering a question on the floor of Parliament tabled by Mr George Boakye, Member for Asunafo South, who wanted to know when the CIC in Kukuom would be made operational.
He noted that currently, the physical infrastructure for the Kukuom CIC had been completed, adding that it was among the list of twenty CIC's each of which would be provided with ten desktop computers, one scanner, one network printer, a server, power backup system to supply electricity, local area network and internet connectivity by the end of October 2010.
Mr Iddrisu said the equipment would be supplied and installed for use under the supervision of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications.
According to him, the CIC would be fully operational under the care of the District Assembly before November 2010.Source: GNA
