If you're ever alone and choking, this manoeuvre could very well save your life.
Maneuvers such as the Heimlich have to be performed on a choking victim by another party but what can a person do when they find themselves in such a difficult situation with no one available to assist?
Firefighter and Paramedic Jeff Rehman has adapted a basic exercise technique for just such a situation.
Jeff suggests choking victims get down on their knees and prop their arms in a "push-up" position. Instead of lowering themselves down by their arms, though, Jeff suggests belly flopping onto the floor with arms splayed out before them.
This action, he says, will force enough air out of the body and will dislodge almost anything stuck in your throat.
However, bear in mind that this technique is not for everyone. Pregnant women, obviously cannot perform this.
Hopefully you will never have to use this but it cannot hurt to add this to your arsenal of lifesaving techniques.
