A Joy News story about a 29-year-old physically challenged University graduate who had almost become a beggar has yielded some results.

Last December, Joy News Upper East Regional Correspondent, Albert Sore filed a story about Samuel Akowuyage who despite having earned a University Degree, was struggling to survive.

Following the story which was aired on Joy News on Multi TV, an American philanthropist, Michelle McGowan has sponsored Samuel to start his own livestock farm.

Despite being born paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair, Samuel Akowuyage has worked against the odds of to obtain a university degree.

Although trained as a professional teacher from the University of Education, Winneba, Samuel found himself on the brink of begging for alms in order to survive because no one was willing employ him.

After Joy News aired Samuel’s story last December, Upper East Correspondent, Albert Sore, who filed the report, went the extra mile to share the broadcast copy of Samuel’s story on YouTube and subsequently shared the link to the YouTube video on social media.

This caught the attention of Michelle McGowan, an American charity worker. She picked up on Samuel’s dream to start his own livestock farm and sponsored him to put up a structure.

Albert Sore who visited Samuel again at his hometown of Walewale in the northern region reports that he has completed his farm structure and purchased some sheep to start.

He is grateful to Joy News and Michelle McGowan for coming to his rescue.

‘I had almost given up on getting any help after the story was aired but you, Albert went further to share the story on YouTube and Facebook and Michelle saw it and came to my aid’, he told Joy News, adding; ‘I am really grateful to all of you and promise that I won’t disappoint you’.

Michelle McGowan is involved in several charities in African countries including Ghana and Kenya. She has supported Samuel with a total amount of GH₵ 1, 430 to put up the structure and purchase his first batch of livestock.

She has promised to raise more funds to support Samuel grow his livestock farm and also get him a new wheelchair.
