Visiting Amidaus Professionals on Sunday held defending champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko to a pulsating 0-0 draw game in their opening Ghana's Premier League match at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi.
Kotoko, who were a pale shadow of themselves as compared to last season, took the game to their opponents in most parts of the first half, with series of well-rehearsed dangerous attacks, but were unsuccessful in finding the opener.
However, the clear-cut chances that came their way in the 15th, 26th and 32nd minutes were squandered by Kwabena Adusei, Mike Helegbe and Kofi Nti Boakye respectively.
On resumption in the second half, a rejuvenated Amidaus side came strongly into the game with a good strategy as they resorted to counter-attack to keep the slippery Kotoko players at bay.
The visitors should have taken the lead in the 47th minute but Roger Adongo’s connection to a Yahaya Mohammed in-swinger missed the post by inches.
Ben Arthur and Mohammed, all of Amidaus, also came close to scoring in the 52nd and 71st minutes respectively, but their efforts were not enough to give them the much needed points.
The two teams in the latter part of the game concentrated most of the action in the midfield to end the match on a barren note.
