One of Ghana’s outstanding investigative journalists, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has won the 2010 Excellence in Journalism Award by the Global Health Council.
He was awarded the Community Reporting category of the awards.
Anas who works with the New Crusading Guide newspaper in Accra has distinguished himself as the country’s most remarkable investigative journalists. In his works, Anas goes to great lengths to uncover crimes including human trafficking, child trafficking and prostitution in Ghana and in other parts of the world. Some of his works have exposed corruption and bribery in Ghana.
His exposés are also well documented and known globally.
“In selecting Mr. Anas for this award, we were awed by the courage and persistence he has shown over a decade in exposing the most vile and degrading treatment of human beings,” said Global Health Council President and CEO Jeffrey L. Sturchio.
“We celebrate everything Mr. Anas has done to rescue and care for the most vulnerable among us.”
The Excellence in Media Award for Global Health is given each year to a journalist (print, electronic, and/or visual) who has in the prior year most effectively captured the essence of a major issue in global health and conveyed it to a broad audience, the Council has said in a press release copied to ghanabusinessnews.com.
The selection of the awardee is based on the quality of the reporting as well as its wide reach among readers and viewers, it added.
The Global Health Council is the world’s largest membership alliance of public health organizations and professionals dedicated to saving lives by improving health throughout the world. The Council’s members work in 140 countries on six continents.
