Former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has insisted Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best players in history, while Lionel Messi is "a chosen one".
The 56-year-old, who is currently on a sabbatical from coaching, has defended both superstars following their slow start to the new campaign.
"Last season with me, he (Ronaldo) scored 61 goals," Ancelotti told Chinese web portal Sina Sports.
"It's incredible. A number that only one of the best players in the history of the game can achieve. Spain is very lucky to be able to enjoy him and Messi.
"Leo will again be one of the best. I have no doubt because he has incredible quality. He is a chosen one."
Messi and Ronaldo failed to score in their first two La Liga games for their clubs – the first time since the Portuguese moved to Spain that both superstars have started with two blanks in front of goal.
Ancelotti, meanwhile, also defended his successor at Real, Rafael Benitez, and insisted it’s too early to judge the club's season.
"I know what it means to coach Real Madrid and I wish Benitez luck and to receive maximum respect for his job," he added.
"Right now, it's too early to judge the team.
"Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo are two crucial pillars for Real Madrid and I wish them the best this season."
