Former Education Minister Betty Mould Iddrisu broke down in uncontrollable tears Tuesday, when she paid tribute to late President Mills during a one week celebration held in his memory at the Efua Sunderland Children’s Park in Accra.
The nation was wet with tears as Ghanaians in all ten regions marked the one week of the death President John Evans Atta Mills which occurred at the 37 Military Hospital last week. A minute silence was held in his honour.
Mrs Mould Iddrisu could hardly be heard when she took her turn to pay tribute to her former boss.
She fondly remembered the late president as a man of peace, saying: “We are here to honour our president, our professor and our asomdweeheene.”
“He (Mills) brought unity to this country. We love you professor,” Mrs Mould cried out.
Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, a leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) also described the late president as “a peace-loving president” who laid down his life for all Ghanaians.
He said the president knew of his ill-health but chose to defy nature in the interest of the nation and in the process propelled Ghana to success as the fastest growing economy in 2011.
“Let us declare him as the Usain Bolt of economic development,” he added.
