AND OUR ANCESTORS WEPT
Today, the Sixth of March
Our Ancestors wept
Our Founding Fathers wept
Our Children yet unborn wept
And Ghana stood still
Today the ceremonies were disrupted
Mother Nature put paid to the insincerity
Our Ancestors were no longer amused with the celebration of mediocrity
Our Founding fathers could no longer tolerate our joy over ineptitude
Our Children yet unborn wanted some quietude to plan for themselves
And Ghana stood still
The failures of 57 years have been monumental
And so today - the Sixth of March of all days
Our Ancestors wept
Our Founding Fathers wept
Our Children yet unborn wept
And Ghana stood still
For the loss of our national self-realisation
Our Ancestors wept
For the dullness of our sense of national consciousness
Our Founding Fathers wept
For the absence of the our sense of national pride
Our Children yet unborn wept
And Ghana stood still
After 57 long years
We have been unable to outlaw
Poverty and want;
Ignorance and Apathy,
Mediocrity and Shamelessness
Corruption and Greed after 57 years
So, the Mother of all creation wept
The Defenders of the nation became downcast
The Marshal music stopped abruptly
And Ghana stood still
