Ghana attacking midfielder Andre Ayew has given the clearest indication yet that he wants to play in England.
The Marseille man says it would be an 'honour' to sign for Liverpool.
The 25-year-old has 'always been a Liverpool fan', and is likely to depart the French side this summer.
“All my life I have been a Liverpool fan,” Ayew told Sky Sports. "When I was young I was watching the Liverpool games.
“Steven Gerrard is my favourite player. It will not be easy to see him leave in the summer, but we all need a new challenge.”
The player has many suitors across Europe, with his talent having never been in doubt after displays in major international events. Clubs, especially in England, Italy and Germany have made moves for the player.
Ayew's agent is his father Abedi Pele, who had previously admitted that the player can still remain with Marseille if the conditions are right. But even internal club people can see that the player will likely move on, as scout Jose Anigo recently intimated.
“I'm a Marseille boy,” Ayew says, “I love Marseille, the club, the fans, the area, it's a great place to play football and I will continue to speak to them but it's true I'd like to play in England.
“I'm 25 now and it is a good age for me to take the next step in my career. I have offers from England, Italy and Germany but it would be unfair to say who from. I speak to my friends such as Morgan Amalfitano at West Ham and Joey Barton at QPR and they always talk well about the league and the atmosphere.
“I have been fortunate to experience Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford in the Champions League but I want to play at Anfield and other grounds.
“I know my quality. I have shown I can play at Marseille and I have taken on responsibility with my country. It's important that you always strive to be better. You see with players such as Eden Hazard how hard they work and I believe in hard work to get better. It's easy to talk though, what is important is that I do it.”
Marseille's current form does not help either, after slipping down the table since being on top before the winter break. The club has just suffered straight defeats against reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain and Girondins de Bordeaux,
And with the Ayews adamant that the player wants Champions League football, the latest five-point slip on the table will be hard to ignore in the final analysis.
“I will fight to the end for Marseille,” he concluded, “then I will make my decision. It is an important step for me,” Ayew, as ever, the diplomat says.
