A leading member of the governing NDC, Andrew Okaikoi, has rubbished claims he masterminded the recent arrest of an Assemblyman with narcotic drugs.

Some residents of Annumle electoral area at Achimota in Accra, claim that Mr. Okaikoi, who contested and lost a Vice Chairmanship position in the National Democratic Congress contracted some persons to plant drugs in the vehicle of Kodzo Hamenya Keglo, the Assemblyman, leading to his arrest.

According to them, Mr. Okaikoi caused the arrest to dent the credibility of Mr. Keglo who is seeking re-election, in order to pave the way for his (Okaikoi's) preferred candidate to win the assembly seat there. 

But the experienced politician has rubbished the claims as frivolous. 

The Daily Guide newspaper reported on Thursday February 26, 2015 that Mr Keglo was picked up on Tuesday afternoon after police were tipped off about some concealed drugs -- pellets of cocaine and Indian hemp -- in his vehicle.

However, after preliminary investigations, police established that the drugs were planted in Mr Keglo's vehicle and, therefore, let him go.

But the police have been unable to apprehend the man who concealed the drugs in Mr Keglo's vehicle.

According to Daily Guide -- who first broke the story -- the Police have been both hostile and tight-lipped about details of the case, especially on who is alleged to have planted the drugs in the vehicle of the Assemblyman for the Annumle electoral area.

However, residents of the area and persons close to Mr Keglo strongly suspect Mr Okaikoi, also a former Okaikoi North Constituency Parliamentary aspirant, masterminded the concealment of the banned substances in the vehicle of Mr Keglo to weaken his political fortunes.

According them, Mr Okaikoi favours another Assemblyman aspirant to win the district level elections.

When Mr Okaikoi was contacted Friday morning, he laughed at the allegations.

"What is my interest in district level elections?", he demanded.

Mr Andrew Okaikoi insisted during a brief interview on Friday February 27, 2015 that he has not been in the country since December 27 and has just returned to Ghana.

In his view, the suspicion of the supporters of the Assemblyman for the Annumle electoral area are unfounded and borne out of malice.
