The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has risen to the defence of the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Mrs Betty-Mould Iddrisu, saying she is one of the best ever.
He said the flak received by the minister were unjustified and unwarranted.
Mr Asiedu Nketia known also as General Mosquito, was contributing to Joy FM’s assessment of the NDC government’s performance in the area of good governance, one year after assuming office.
The A-G has come under a barrage of criticisms for losing a string of cases at the courts.Read one of the cases here.
General Mosquito emphasised that the NDC was of the view that Mrs Mould-Iddrisu was living up to her task “because being an Attorney-General doesn’t mean that you should jail citizens by all means. You allow the law to be interpreted and people to be processed fairly according to democratic tenets, [and] when they are declared innocent that is what the law says. [So] the Attorney-General must be congratulated.”
“I am surprised that people including NPP functionaries are saying that the Attorney-General has not been performing her duties. In fact she has been one of the best Attorney-Generals because she is ensuring that citizens are not jailed just because they belong to another political party,” he told Joy News’ Matilda Asante Asiedu.
