Managing Editor of the Gye Nyame Concord, Alfred Ogbamey has taken a swipe at the General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia for the internal wranglings in the party.
He said General Secretary has been one of the key problems of the party.
General Mosquito, as Asiedu Nketia is popularly called, is reported to have said the NDC in its bid to retain the seat in 2012 would not beg former President Jerry Rawlings to campaign for them.
He said Mr. Rawlings does not deserve any apology for his wife’s massive defeat to President Mills at the party’s Tamale congress held in Sunyani.
Prior to this, Asiedu Nketia, while welcoming Dr. Yao Obed Asamoah, who defected from the NDC based on differences with Mr. Rawlings some years back said the barking dog that drove Obed Asamoah and others out of the party had been silenced.
But Alfred Ogbamey on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday could not grasp the motive behind General Mosquito’s outburst at a time the party is reported to have been in talks with the Rawlingses to foster peace in the party.
He said even though former President Jerry Rawlings is very bitter because he has not had his way and had resorted to incessant criticism of the Mills-led administration, Asiedu Nketia has further muddied the waters through his recent utterances.
“In the mist to a so-called negotiation to have a solution to a problem, do you go antagonizing the other side?” he asked.
Alfred Ogbamey cited the “barking dog’ issues as a clear example of attempts by the NDC General Secretary to spite Mr. Rawlings adding that “that description fits nobody better in the party than Jerry Rawlings”.
He advised Asiedu Nketia to be circumspect in his utterances since it is likely to be misconstrued.
“As a General Secretary of the party, you know the electoral value of that guy. There is none like him who at least manipulate the minds of a select group of this country”.
The Gye Nyame Concord editor warned of adverse consequences for the NDC should Nana Konadu with the support of Mr. Rawlings decide to stand as an independent candidate in the 2012 general elections if attempts to sideline the Rawlingses from the party persists.
Alfred Ogbamey cautioned the NDC to focus on solving their internal party bickering rather than focusing on demeaning Nana Akufo-Addo because “they (NDC) would laugh at the wrong side of their month in the next election.
