Authorities at the Asante Mampong Cemetery, in collaboration with the local Assembly Member, have banned unauthorized persons from entering the cemetery following the shocking desecration of the tomb of the late queen mother of the local Frafra community.
The queen mother, who died at the age of 85 in 2025, had her grave allegedly tampered with by unknown assailants. The perpetrators are said to have exhumed the body and severed the head, leaving the headless remains about five meters away from the tomb, in what residents suspect to be a ritual-related act.
The disturbing incident has thrown residents of Asante Mampong into a state of shock, fear, and disbelief, as such an occurrence has never been recorded in the area’s history.
Adom News reporter, Kwadwo Obeng Mireku, visited the community to assess the situation and speak with authorities and residents.
Speaking to Adom News, the caretaker and senior gravedigger at the Mampong Cemetery, Kwame Afrah, described the incident as unprecedented and deeply disturbing.
“This kind of incident has never occurred here before. It has come to us as a big surprise. From now onwards, we are going to tighten security at the cemetery to prevent unauthorized persons from entering. Most of the smokers who come here to smoke will no longer be allowed,” he stated.
According to him, although cemetery workers are present from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm daily, additional security measures will now be implemented, especially during the night, to prevent further incidents.
The Assembly Member for the Akyeremade Electoral Area, Kwame Nkrumah, also confirmed that the Assembly has engaged the police to intensify night patrols at the cemetery.
“From now onwards, if you are not here to acquire a burial plot for a deceased relative or you are not an authorized worker, do not enter the cemetery. Anyone found loitering here without justification will face the law,” he cautioned.
He added that the police have launched investigations and are currently searching for the perpetrators behind the heinous act. He emphasized that strict access control measures will be enforced going forward.
Some residents of Asante Mampong also expressed their concern, describing the late queen mother as a calm, humble, and highly respected figure in the community.
“We are deeply saddened and shocked by what has happened. She was a peaceful and respected woman. We want the traditional council to perform libation to purify the land and restore peace to the community,” some residents appealed.
Meanwhile, family members of the deceased have reportedly travelled to northern Ghana to assist with further investigations and customary processes.
The incident has raised serious concerns about cemetery security and ritual-related activities, prompting calls for stronger surveillance and protection of burial grounds in the municipality.
