Miss Malaika 2014 heartthrob, Stephanie Serwaa Agyeman, has made a donation to the Autism Awareness Care and Training Center in Kokomemle, Accra, to support children suffering from the neurological disorder.
The Founder of the 'Odo For Autism' campaign and a popular Ambassador for autism awareness drive, backed by her team of volunteers, also spent time with the children at the Autism Centre on April 1, 2015 as part of events to kick start World Autism Day which was marked on April 2.
The photogenic lady who made it among the top 5 final delegates of Miss Malaika Ghana 2014 said the motivation for her donation is underscored by her desire to make people suffering from Autism feel loved.
"Odo For Autism, as the name suggests, is 'love for autism'. It is an NGO seeking to raise autism awareness in Ghana, help people to embrace autism as well as empower children living with autism. Our motivation to donate 60 boxes of water to the Autism Awareness Care and Training Center, was to show our love and support to these children", she told Myjoyonline.com.
She adds: "Before we made this donation, we visited Accra Mall to educate Ghanaians on autism and also solicited for funds through the sale of some items to help raise funds to use for this donation."
She was grateful to Guaranty Trust Bank for supporting the donation exercise.
"We want to raise awareness about autism and allocate funds to address all the unanswered questions about the sickness.
"Odo For Autism believes that people living with autism also have the right to be happy, loved and supported just as others are. This drives us to create more awareness about autism here in Ghana as most of our people think autism is a curse. We need to let them know that autism is not a disability but a different ability", she said.
