A communications team member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on President John Mahama to avoid making propaganda speeches and be truthful to Ghanaians on the actual state of Ghana’s economy as he addresses the nation Thursday.
Stephen Amoah, alarmed by the water, electricity and fuel crisis he called “trinity crisis” said if the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) had spent its efforts on prudent economic management rather than spewing propaganda and lies, the problems currently faced by Ghanaians would have been avoided.
He was speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday.
President Mahama will deliver a State of the Nation Address today in Parliament in accordance with Article 67 of the Constitution.
The president is expected to enumerate his achievements in the various sectors of the economy and measure he has put in place to accelerate the country’s growth.
Many Ghanaians are expecting him to come out with cogent solutions to the erratic electricity and water supply as well as the acute shortage of in some parts of the country.
Stephen Amoah speaking on Ekosii Sen said President Mahama must be bold and admit that the country economy is on the brink of collapse.
According to him, the president must restore hope and confidence in the citizenry that he can deliver on the Better Ghana Agenda which he [Amoah] says has become a Bitter Ghana Agenda.
The NPP man claimed that key economic indicators suggest that Ghana is likely to return to HIPC if steps are not taken to reverse the trend.
Stephen Amoah attributed the problem to the needless spending by government in the round up to the 2012 general election to retain power.
He said the current hardship in the country in the last four years is due to the abysmal performance of the NDC which he says lack the ability to transform the economy.
“I am not surprised; how the country will prosper under a political party which has a propaganda unit. The NDC only want to consolidate power to enrich themselves to the detriment of the poor electorate who voted for them” he added.
