Awate is a picturesque village along the Volta Lake which is situated about 8 kilometres from the main Kpando-Accra road. The road to Awate branches off between Vakpo and Anfoega Gblenkor. It is made up of various clans and one of the prominent clans is Dzigba which is made up mainly of the Gbordzoe family and their descendants. The Gbordzoes are a well-known family of intellectuals, most of who are residing outside Ghana. This has resulted in people trying to take advantage of the situation. Dzigba has been very peaceful until the Easter weekend when two people and the self-styled King-makers of Awate decided that it is their responsibility to enstool Reagan Ankutakpuie as chief of Dzigba without consulting the clan members or the Abusuapanin Pius Gbordzoe. These men are from Vakpo and are relatives of Reagan. Reagan is the son of the late chief, Togbe Agbe IV, who died about five years ago.The Gbordzoes and other clan members are still deliberating on the choice of a suitable candidate for the position. They feel they need an intellectual with a vision with leadership qualities who has the interest of the clan at heart. Reagan has never been the acceptable candidate to the clan because of some obvious reasons character - a businessman without portfolio. The self-styled king-makers feel it’s their right to impose this young man on the clan. The clan is rejecting this move with all the contempt it deserves. The clan members are aggrieved and all descendants of the Gbordzoe and related families join together to fight this serious violation of their rights.A letter has been sent to the D.C. at Kpando and the clan is hoping he will take act urgently on this matter before it degenerates into something nasty. It is expected that he will send people to investigate the matter thoroughly. It must be noted that the Dzigba clan as a principle will never accept a crook and a fraudster as a chief. Modern day chieftaincy matters are about consultation and negotiation.A chief rules over people and if his subjects do not want him, how is he going to do that? The self-styled king –maker, Napoleon Mawusi, must know that times have changed and enstoolment of a chief is about negotiation, not about show of force. The enemy must be laughing and making mockery of them. The whole world is watching them. They must know that this is Dzigba not Todome or Agame.
