Ghana’s sporting legends, Prof Azumah Nelson and Abedi Ayew Pele are expected to join over 1000 people to participate in Saturday’s SOS sponsored walk, dubbed ‘A walk with the stars’.
The 12 kilometer walk is part of a week long activities that will mark SOS Day, which is observed world wide at all SOS children’s villages to remember their founder, Prof Hermann Gmeiner.
A statement signed by Kojo Mintah, Country Director of SOS Children’s Villages indicated that the walk among other things will serve as exercise for the participants and more importantly raise funds to build two medical laboratories in the SOS villages at Tema and Asiakwa.
“This year’s SOS Week is also being used to high light the role SOS has played in Ghana’s development, as well as celebrate Ghana @ 50. We will also use the opportunity to celebrate some of the stars the nation has produced in sporting, business and social circles,” the statement said.
The walk which will begin at 6:30 am from the SOS Village in Tema will cover some routes in the municipality and end at the village.
Also expected to participate in the walk are the Managing Director of Stanbic Bank, Alhassan Andani, students, parents and staff of SOS Herman Gmeiner Primary and JSS and the SOS Vocational Center.
