Public Basic and Junior High Schools in the Brong Ahafo Region have received 6,624 laptops for use in support of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) teaching and learning. The RLG branded laptops are expected to benefit some 30,000 pupils in 275 basic and junior high schools in the region. Brong Ahafo Deputy Regional Minister, Eric Opoku handed over the laptops and other accessories to the District and Municipal Chief Executives in the region at a brief ceremony in Sunyani for onward distribution to beneficiary schools. The distribution of the laptops forms part of the Basic School Computerization Project currently being executed by the government through the Ministry of Education. Under the project, 60,000 laptops are to be given to basic schools across the country to facilitate ICT teaching and learning. The laptops are assembled in Ghana by RLG Communications and funding of the project is provided by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND). The ceremony was witnessed by Municipal and District Chief Executives in the region as well as some district Directors of Education, school heads and pupils. The Deputy Regional Minister said government was leaving nothing to chance in ensuring the highest quality of education for both teachers and pupils. The Regional Director of Education, Dr. George Adjei-Hene commended government for the gesture. The Brong Ahafo region becomes the fifth region to benefit from the project initiated by late President Prof. Evans Atta Mills. The three Northern Regions and the Eastern Region have since had their share of the facility which includes a set of 24 laptops, a trawler and other gadgets for each school in the beneficiary region. The ceremony was attended by an RLG delegation led by the company’s corporate affairs manager, Mr Emmanuel Arthur.
