Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage has revealed that she got turned down by Banky W, Mohits and other record labels when she started her career.
According to her, the labels at the time said they had their own female artistes to work with and had no space for another.
“Banky W was about to work with Niniola at the time. I also went to Mohits and they were working with Muna," Tiwa Savage said in an interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.
Tiwa Savage explained, while living in the US, she had been inspired by Nigerian artistes like D Banj who were making it big with African music.
Realising that she may not make it as an RnB artiste in Hollywood, she decided to go home and make music with Nigerian and African influences.
However, all the labels she had visited including Banky W's Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), Storm Records and Mohits turned her down.
After the numerous rejections, the 'All Over' hitmaker said she went back to the US.
But, determined to make a career in music Tiwa Savage came back to her motherland ready to meet other labels.
She stated that she "begged" Don Jazzy who owned Mavins Records to sign her on.
"To me, Jazzy is not just a producer, he develops artistes. I was seeing him create stars and not just give them a beat. I wanted someone to take me to that next level. Apart from that, I felt like family."
“I’m sure EME, other records can see me now,” Tiwa said.
