Democracy Hub, organisers of the recent three-day #StopGalamseyNow and #ReoccupyJulorbiHouse demonstrations is urgently calling on authorities to take immediate action to address the health concerns of activist, Oliver Barker-Vormawor.
In a press statement on Thursday, October 10, the group said Mr Barker-Vormawor was rushed to the Police Hospital earlier today, Thursday, due to a serious health deterioration.
"We are gravely concerned for his well-being and urge the authorities to act swiftly in addressing his health needs," Democracy Hub stated.
The group noted that medical professionals are currently conducting tests to assess his condition and determine whether hospitalisation is necessary.
Democracy Hub emphasised the gravity of the situation and urged the authorities to ensure that Mr Barker-Vormawor receives the medical care he needs.
"This situation is critical, and we hope the authorities will respond with the urgency it demands," the statement added.
Mr Barker-Vormawor, a convener of Democracy Hub, has been in police custody since September 23, 2024, following his arrest during the #StopGalamsey and #OccupyJulorbiHouse protests.
This marks the second time his health has worsened since his detention, raising significant concerns about his well-being.
Despite several appeals to the High Court in Accra for his release, Mr Barker-Vormawor remains the only protester denied bail, unlike the other 52 activists who were granted bail on October 9, 2024.
The Democracy Hub has urged the public to keep Mr Barker-Vormawor in their thoughts and prayers, while they continue to monitor the situation closely.
He has been denied bail on three occasions.
