Management of Bechem United have expressed the desire to compensate AshantiGold players who lost valuable items in a robbery incident at the Bechem Park.
Players of Ashanti Gold were robbed while they were playing in a pre-season friendly at Bechem United in the Brong Ahafo Region last Sunday.
The league champions returned to the dressing room after suffering a 2-1 defeat to their host to realise that thieves had broken into the dressing room from the ceiling. They made away with cash, clothes, watches and other jewellery.
The incident has since been reported to the police who are carrying out investigations.
Meanwhile, the management of Bechem United say they are prepared to compensate their guests for the loss if police investigations do not lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
In an interview with the chairman of the club, Kingsley Osei Bonsu told Joy Sports the club was doing this so that their relationship between the two clubs would not be severed.
“What we want to do is that if after some time, the police are not able to get a clue as to who is responsible, we would decide on an amount to be given to AshGold as compensation. I believe this is not going to stop the two teams from coming together as brothers on the same field.”
As it highly unlikely that the stolen items would be recovered, Bechem should certainly be getting ready to pay up.
There is a return game scheduled between the two clubs this time at the Len Clay Stadium.
