Assistant coach of the national under-23 team, Maxwell Konadu has reiterated the need for his side to play some high profile friendly internationals ahead of the All Africa Games which commences on September 3 in Maputo, Mozambique.
The Black Meteors have secured 4 wins and 2 draws out of 6 warm-up matches played against local clubs since camping began on August 1.
Premier League clubs Liberty Professionals, Ebusua Dwarfs and AshantiGold are the only three top sides the Meteors have played so far and the technical team wants tougher friendly matches to improve the team.
Coach Maxwell Konadu told JOY Sports Dennis Mirpuri, “We need to go out there and play a couple of friendly matches and really test our strength. From there, we can really assess our team but locally we are doing well.”
He added that, “We are still working on our defence. The cohesion is still a problem for us. We are scoring goals but we are conceding. We know it’s a problem but we are working on them.”
The technical handlers will name a final 20-man squad for the Games on Wednesday before the team flies out to South Africa to finalize preparations.
