The man who was arrested at Buduburam in the Central Region last Friday in connection with the alleged murder of a 34-year-old man at Ashanti New Town (Ash Town) in Kumasi has turned out not to be the real Bonty Killer suspect the police are looking for.
Some informants last Friday arrested the man who is also known as Bonty and handed him over to the police at Kasoa.
The Kasoa Police in turn handed the man over to the Ashanti Regional Police.
But when he was sent to Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Police Command said he was not the suspect they were looking for.
Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye, told the Daily Graphic that even though the man arrested had the same name, Bonty, he was not the suspect in connection with the Ash Town murder.
He revealed that they were still in pursuit of the real Bonty Killer suspect.
Bounty
The police have placed a GH¢2000 ransome each on four suspected criminals who allegedly shot and killed Kwame Antwi at Ash Town, near Nana Buabasa’s residence in Kumasi, on Friday, May 16, 2014.
Antwi, until his death, was a security man at C. Woermann Company Limited at Atonsu in Kumasi.
The four suspects on the wanted list are Kwame Sasraku, Bonty Killer (aka Wunda), West (aka Nana Yaw) and Dragno.
According to DCOP Kofi Boakye, it was during investigations that it came out that Bonty Killer, also known as Hyundai Guy, had used a weapon suspected to be a locally manufactured pistol to shoot Antwi.
Soon after the incident, the suspects relocated to Accra.
Suspects
He said at about 5:30 p.m. that day, Antwi, in the company of his friends, Richard Owusu, Richard Wiafe, Patrick Sarpong and Kofi Kwarteng, went to a ‘pito’ bar in Ash Town Down Town area to drink.
Immediately Antwi and his friends left the bar, they were accosted by two young men who attacked them.
Five other persons, including Sasraku, a goldsmith apprentice who resides at Ash Town, reportedly joined the two men to physically assault Antwi and his friends, and Antwi was shot in the head.
The assailants later joined a waiting taxi, a KIA Pride, and sped off.
