Economic activities in parts of the Ashanti region is grinding to a halt following delays in fixing a key bridge in the area.

That bridge links some major towns such as Adagya, Donaso and Sewua which have all been cut-off from other communities, compelling motorists and commuters to turn to long winding alternative routes to reach their destination.

The bridge was destroyed six months ago after the Ankonim River overflowed its banks during heavy downpour.

Speaking to Joy News, Luv FM's Erastus Asare Donkor reports that “commercial activities remain separated by a collapsed bride’ which links these communities to ‘Edweso and by extension the central business town of Kumasi.”

However, six months on nothing has been done despite previous assurances from officialdom.

Speaking to the press then, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Elizabeth Agyemang said “The DCE is also here so I will tell him to write it and forward it to the [Regional] Minister so that we can also forward this to Roads Minister to take immediate action on this road.”  

According to Erastus Asare Donkor the situation is making “commercial drivers reluctant to use the road in the catchment area. The best they can do, he adds ‘is to end the journey on each side of the road’ forcing commuters to “carry their luggage to the other end of the road to join another car there.”
