Ghanaian boxer Phillip ‘Sweat Pea’ Kotey could emerge as one of the nation’s potential world champions, if he wins a crucial bout in December.
Kotey challenges Brit, Kell Brook, for the WBA intercontinental welterweight title in the UK on December 11 in Liverpool – a task which seems very arduous.
Kotey was at one point one of the finest welterweights in the country but blew an opportunity to win the WBC international title after losing to Joseph Makaringe in South Africa five years ago.
The Ghanaian has 21 wins and five losses while Brook is undefeated in 22 fights.
Kotey, a long time sparring partner to former world champions like Ike Bazooka Quartey and Joshua Clottey is hoping to stage a major recovery and set his title winning ambitions on course according to his trainer Alloway.
He said while Kell Brook’s record is amazing, “we are also preparing very well to face him.”
