A five-year-old boy, Mubarak Nuru, was burnt to death on Saturday afternoon when fire gutted his house at Kasoa in the Central Region.
Nutu Mohammed, the Awutu Senya East National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth Organiser, father of the deceased, was in the house with his two children after he had returned from a medical check-up when he fell asleep. He was later awoken by a thick smoke which had already engulfed the house.
Though he was overwhelmed by the smoke, he managed to shout for help which prompted the residents around to come to their rescue.
Mohammed and one of the children, Danlade Nuru, were rescued but Mubarak Nuru was not luky due to the intensity of the fire. Mubarak was heard screaming until his sound died down.
The residents who trooped in to help did their best to put the fire down before the Fire Service personnel arrived.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya, Dr. Nuhu Adams and the constituency Chairman of the NDC, Alhaji Habib Dramani and other executives were there to commiserate with the bereaved youth organiser.
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), was yet to make a detailed assessment of what had happened and the properties destroyed, while the Ghana Police Service investigation team continued its investigation into the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile the body of the deceased, Mubarak Nuru, had since been deposited at the Police Hospital Morgue in Accra.
