A seven-year old boy got drowned in River Pomasu at Atronie in the Sunyani municipality, in the early hours of Sunday.
Superintendent Charles Botwe, Sunyani Municipal Police Commander, who confirmed the incident to Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Tuesday, said that the deceased, Alhaji Siaka, and three other boys went to swim in the river.
He said that the water level of the river was high due to a recent downpour that hit some parts of the municipality but they ignored the situation and swam in the river.
Superintendent Botwe said that when the three boys realised that Siaka had drowned they rushed home and reported the matter to the boy's parents.
He said that the people of Atronie organized a search party and when they found the boy's body trapped in the river, they reported the matter to the Police in Sunyani.
The body of the boy has been deposited at the Regional Hospital in Sunyani pending autopsy.
