Criminologist, Dr. Jones Opoku-Ware is urging government to begin profiling of refugees at the Budumbura Camp even as the Gomoa East District Assembly serves notice it will soon demolish the venue.
Earlier, residents had till the end of September to relocate.
But touching on the high tendency for criminals to settle at such places, Dr. Jones Opoku-Ware said government must get the details of all refuges to allow for easy tracking should any of them try to perpetrate heinous crimes in neighboring communities.
"There is always that tendency that as they move to the edges of other communities, for instance, Greater Accra, Central and even some part of the Western Region, you might have those with criminal tendencies perpetuate their acts.
"We must begin to profile the refugees before they leave. Communities closer to the camp must become vigilant, and we must regulate how people come in and out of the country," he said.
For more than three decades, the Budumburam Camp which sits on a 141-acre land in the Central Region has served as home to thousands of West African nationals.
These people are mostly Liberians and Sierra Leoneans who fled their countries during civil wars.
However, currently, the place is no longer recognized as a refugee camp
Traditional authorities have been pushing for the demolition of the area saying it has become a haven for criminals.
Government has finally heeded their calls, giving residents up to the end of September to relocate.
