Ghana’s Braimah Kamoko (Bukom Banku) decked Uruguay’s Jorge Oliveira for the WBO Africa Light-heavyweight championship Saturday night.
Oliveira’s corner threw in the towel in the fourth round after convincing themselves their man at the hands of the flamboyant Ghanaian, a victory celebrated wildly in the stands by Vice President John Dramani Mahama.
Banku dropped his opponent first in the first round, followed in the second by a more cautious Oliveira who tried in vain to control the bout, organized by GoldenMike Boxing Promotions at the Accra International Conference Centre.
But a vicious Banku returned in the third with a flurry of hefty punches and jabs, convinced his opponent posed no threat on the night dubbed ‘Night of no return’. Oliveira went down and again in the third, surviving only until the fourth when the towel followed him as he went down once more to cut short the 12-round bout.
Bukom Banku stands unbeaten at 21-0, with 16 Kos.
