Governance watcher, Dr. Emmanuel Akwetey, has described as premature, calls for the removal of Attorney-General, Martin Amidu.
Some spokespersons of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and government functionaries have called for the head of the A-G after he accused unnamed officials and pro-NDC newspapers of embarking on a deliberate campaign to run him down.
But Mr. Amidu has expressed his determination to see the case through despite the wagging tongues in the party. He told Joy News he will only quit at the instance of the president.
The Executive Director of the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG), Dr. Emmanuel Akwetey, also believes those waging the campaign against the minister may be uninformed about the duties of the A-G.
“Those asking him to resign appear to have jumped the gun. He has made specific allegations. I thought they will call for investigations because it is also to say that these are corrupt elements, allegedly.”
He said the only plausible basis to call for the A-G’s resignation is after thorough investigations have been conducted into his allegations and he is found to have told a lie.
