National Under 17 team, player Perro Gwalla appears to be the first casualty of the current boardroom feud between his club, Catholic Stars, and the FA President's club, Wa All Stars. The player, a regular substitute in the Under 17 Championship, lost his place in the team last week following a decision to drop some key players from the team. But the Chairman of Catholic Stars, Mr Frank Atogyiri, believes strongly that the player is only a victim of the current battle between his team and Wa All Stars. Catholic Stars, after losing 0-3 to Wa All Stars in the last game of the Middle League, filed a protest against All Stars for fielding unqualified players. The protest was, however, dismissed by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association. Catholic Stars are still pursuing the matter at the Appeals Committee. Mr Atogyiri wondered how a player who was very impressive throughout the Starlets African campaign can be dropped from the team. "It does not surprise me at all because the moment we took the risk of challenging All Stars, I knew the worst was in store for us. "So the dropping of Perro was the price we are paying for challenging All Stars, but I'm not worried by these developments. People who find themselves at the top should learn to appreciate that no condition is permanent," he asserted. According to Atogyiri, Perro was among the few talents that emerged from a nationwide tour embarked upon by former coach of the Starlets, Bashiru Hayford. "In fact, he was one of the few players who impressed the handlers when they came to the Upper East and Upper West regions", he argued. ''Those who knew him even wondered why he was made to always start from the bench during the tournament in Togo,” he stated. He said that he had done well to make the player accept the situation and count it as a temporary setback. "I have told him that as a player he must learn to accept some of these things as part of the hazards of the game which invariably help to mould a disciplined player", he added. Credit: Graphic Sports
