The incidence of farm destruction by Fulani herdsmen and their cattle does not seem to have ceased at Agogo.
Two months after the cattle were driven away from the farmlands of Agogo, they have returned to destroy farms.
The latest victim is the 2010 National Best Maize Farmer, Michael Eshun.
The Joint Police Military team tasked to remove Fulani herdsmen and their cattle from Agogo farmlands declared an end to their operations in December.
The team drove the cattle to an area along the border between the Ashanti and Eastern Regions where the Fulani herdsmen were expected to contain their cattle.
The Police assure residents they were safe and could return to their farms to produce food in peace.
But the Fulani herdsmen have breached this arrangement and have returned to some Agogo farmlands to graze their cattle.
A visit by Luv News to the Farm of the 2010 National Best Maize Farmer showed the cattle had eaten all the fresh maize and trampled on dried ones they could not eat.
Michael Eshun says the animals have destroyed about ten hectares of his maize plantation.
He said on the 9th of January he noticed the presence of Fulani herdsmen and their cattle around his farm. He immediately reported the matter to the police and the joint police military task force stationed at Agogo.
The same incident occurred on the 10th and this time Mr Eshun said he witnessed extensive destruction to parts of his farm.
He said his security men were shot at by the Fulani herdsmen when they tried to drive the cattle away.
“We alerted our security and beefed up security, on the night of 11th January I was called from the house that the cattle were invading the farm and in an attempt to drive them off the Fulani men started shooting, so my men ran away,” Mr. Eshun stated.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Prince Wuabu of the Police Striking Force has asked the community to report such incidence to the Police for swift action.
