The Central Regional Disaster Management Committee, led by Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere, has activated security, humanitarian and disaster responses, while police, including specialised national reinforcements and two armoured vehicles, have been deployed to secure the New Winneba township following a communal clash in the community located along the Winneba-Swedru highway.  

Accordingly, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has deployed local field teams to assess displacement, structural damage and urgent relief needs. 

According to a statement by the Regional Director of NADMO, Emmanuel Kwesi Dawood, it has deployed teams who are registering displaced persons, mapping damaged homes and public facilities and coordinating with health and security agencies to prioritise emergency shelter, food, water and medical support.  

“NADMO is providing psychological support to affected families and to victims undergoing treatment at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba. 

"The agency is also working with regional security councils, district leaders, and local assembly members to arrange temporary shelters and safe havens, coordinate relief distribution, and uphold community safety protocols.  

"The urgent move aims to ensure a rapid, evidence-based response and is also to prevent secondary public-health risks and provide data for targeted humanitarian assistance and recovery planning,” the statement said.  

It added that the NADMO Central's early assessments will guide resource allocation and longer-term rehabilitation for affected families.  

On Tuesday, September 1, violent clashes by some communities at New Winneba along the Agona‑Swedru highway left three people dead and about 15 others, including a police officer, seriously injured, and the victims are being treated at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba.  

The attack, which happened around 10:40 hours involved an estimated 300 people armed with guns, cutlasses, stones and sticks, reportedly from Gomoa Oguakrom, Gomoa Yenkuadze and Gomoa Pomadze. Several shops and residential properties were damaged, and preliminary reports link the violence to an escalating land litigation dispute.  

Meanwhile, six people have been arrested in connection with the crime by the police, with one locally made single-barrel gun and an AAA empty cartridge retrieved from the crime scene by the police. 

The suspects have been identified as Kweku Kakraba, 52 years, Arko Thomas,19years, Samuel Tulasi 19 years, Samuel Gyasi, 22 years, Emmanuel Okyere, 22 years and Seth Osei, 22years.
