Chelsea brushed aside Blackpool to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to four points.
Salomon Kalou tapped home from a corner in the second minute before Florent Malouda struck from short range.
Didier Drogba's deflected strike made it 3-0 before Malouda scored his second with a low shot just before the break.
Petr Cech denied Alex Baptiste and in a much better second-half display the keeper saved a Gary Taylor-Fletcher shot with DJ Campbell also going close.
After the break Blackpool had an even share of the opportunities, but the game was already beyond the visitors by then.
The afternoon got off to the worst possible start for Blackpool, who managed to touch the ball just once before Chelsea opened the scoring after 71 seconds.
That solitary touch gave Chelsea a corner, from which an unmarked Kalou tapped home at the far post after Branislav Ivanovic had flicked on.
Chelsea were without injured duo John Terry and Frank Lampard while Nicolas Anelka was rested, but it did not prevent the home team from repeatedly carving open a Tangerines side that lacked shape and were extremely vulnerable to swift counter attacks.
Michael Essien and Drogba fashioned a simple finish for Malouda after 12 minutes and it did not take long before the party tricks started to appear, with Drogba playing one particularly audacious behind-the-leg pass.
Ashley Cole appeared to have the freedom of the left flank and a square ball from the England international was fired home by Drogba with a shot on the turn that took a significant deflection off defender Ian Evatt.
Tangerines boss Ian Holloway, who saw his team thrashed 6-0 at Arsenal in August, had included the more defensive Alex Baptiste for Brett Ormerod in his starting line-up, presumably to frustrate Chelsea.
But Holloway's ragged outfit were frequently outnumbered at the back and it took a good save from Matt Gilks to deny Drogba after the Ivorian's neat flick and turn had wrong-footed several Blackpool players.
Drobga played a raking pass from a central position that found Kalou, who in turn picked out Malouda for the France international to slot home the fourth with a low first-time finish on 41 minutes.
Blackpool could consider themselves unlucky not to have reduced the deficit with the scoreline at 2-0 but Baptiste's low rasping strike was amazingly saved by Cech.
Dekel Keinan should also have scored with a header from a corner that skimmed wide as virtually everything went wrong for the Tangerines in the opening 45 minutes.
The visiting side took the fight to their opponents after the restart and forced a goal-line clearance from Ivanovic after Campbell took the ball around Cech and shot from a tight angle.
Charlie Adam then picked out Luke Varney out with a delicious pass but his team-mate skewed his volley well wide.
Chelsea should have been awarded a penalty after Keinen tugged Malouda, but Blackpool continued to threaten at the other end as Campbell almost bundled the ball home from inside the six-yard box.
Holloway had brought on Taylor-Fletcher for Neal Eardley at the break and the striker almost scored with his superb floated effort that Cech did well to save.
Malouda spurned two opportunities to complete his hat-trick before Tangerines substitute Marlon Harewood smashed a close-range strike into the side netting.
Cole then had a strike blocked and Drogba missed the target as Chelsea failed to build on their half-time advantage but Carlo Ancelotti's side nonetheless have a goal difference of +20 after five Premier League fixtures.
