Chiefs and people of Ngleshie Alata Lafaa in the Weija Gbawe Municipality of the Greater Accra Region on Friday celebrated their annual Yeleyelie Homowo festival at Weija.
The event, which witnessed a beautiful display of carnival costumes attracted hundreds of visitors that created a gridlock at Mallam Junction.

Ngleshie Alata Lafaa homowo festival is noted for an extraordinary display of carnival costumes.
Exactly at 10:00am, a procession through the community commenced with a colorful carnival that proceeded to the Lafaa stream near Mallam Market to meet the chief, Nii Ayi Okufobour I, and his chief priests and warriors who had gone to the Lafaa stream to perform the annual Homowo rituals.
From the Mallam Market, the procession continued amid singing and firing of musketry which ended at the chief’s palace at Weija Junction with a mini durbar of sub-chiefs and queen mothers.
Speaking to journalists after the procession, Nii Ayi Okufobour I, expressed his unhappiness about how some pastors condemn activities of traditionalists.

He said such condemnations do not augur for the Ghanian society since chiefs play a vital role in national development.
He thus tasked the media to educate the masses on the important role chiefs and customs play in the society.
Nii Ayi Okufobour I charged journalists to work without fear or favour to correct the ills of the society.
