The Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) has directed commercial drivers not to increase their charges following last Fridays five percent increase in prices of petroleum products.
The GRTCC says the margin of increase in the fuel price is not enough to warrant any change in road transport fares.
This directive was contained in a press release issued by the GRTCC in Accra.
Chairman of the group Mathew Hayford says the GRTCC will be on the lookout to deal with Drivers who flout the Directive.
"When we factor it into the computations we can only increase transport fares by 1.3% and that is insignificant," he said.
Mr Hayford however indicated that the council will note down the increase to be factored into future adjustments.
The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) adjusted fuel prices by a 5% average.
The authority cited price hikes in world crude price as what had informed the upward review.
Although there were earlier suggestions government would absorb any increase in fuel prices, that did not materialise.
