After weeks of speculations and rumour mongering, it has now been confirmed that former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings will contest the flagbearership position of the National Democratic Party.
The NDP is holding a congress this Saturday at the Kumasi Sports stadium to do a number of things, the highlight being the selection of a flag-bearer.
There had been speculations about the former First Lady’s involvement in the formation of the party.
The General Secretary of the NDP, Dr. Joseph Manboa-Rockson Monday put the rumours to rest by confirming to Joy New that Mrs Rawlings would be contesting the party's flagbearership race.
He also disclosed that over 7,500 people are expected to attend the congress this Saturday.
He said two other persons interested in the flag-bearership slot were currently in talks with Mrs Rawlings.
It is his hope that the two will shelve their interest and allow her to be acclaimed as the consensus candidate to avoid a contest. He, however, refused to name the other two.
“Now that she has shown an interest and a desire to contest, we believe that a consensus will be reached amongst the three so that Mrs Rawlings becomes the flag-bearer and then we get a running-mate," he stated.
He said party executive will also be affirmed at the congress.
