Students in tertiary institutions in the country have been asked to consider themselves as the engine of growth of the country and work towards national development. They should also become role models and galvanize their people towards progress since governments alone could not provide the people with all their needs. Mr. Mark Woyongo, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Makenba Broadcasting Company, operators of a Tamale based radio station, gave the advice at a meeting organised by the Polytechnic branch of Kassena Nankana Students Union (KANASU) at Tamale at the Weekend. The meeting enabled the students to take stock of the past year and to see how best they could promote education and mobilizing funds for development in their various areas. Mr. Woyongo appealed to the students to support their people to initiate self-help projects and to rekindle their communal spirit for development. He said effective mobilization of people to undertake self-help projects would help develop the communities in the Northern part of the country to prevent rural-urban drift. Mr. Woyongo urged National Service Personnel to accept postings to rural areas to enable them serve their people. Mr. Abdallah Ababakari Bawa Ayongo, president of KANASU, called on eminent people from the Northern part of the country to contribute to the development of their communities to justify investments made in their education by their parents. Mr. Ayongo commended Mr. Mark Woyongo for investing in the communication industry in the Northern part of the country and urged others people from the area to emulate that example. Mr. Sabastian Achana, a research officer at the Navrongo Health Research Centre, advised the students to take their studies seriously to enable them pass their examinations. Source: GNA
