Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Wednesday said parliamentary primaries should be considered as a healthy democratic practice which should unite the party rather than divide it. "Those who decide to go independent or severe relationship with their mother party or join other parties because they did not win the primaries should not be considered as true democrats". Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo stressed this when Professor Evans Atta-Mills NDC Presidential candidate asked members of the party to be united and avoid being bitter when they lose the primaries. Prof. Mills and Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo took turns to address party executives drawn from the Nkwanta district at Nkwanta during their 10-day tour of the country to denounce media reports that the NDC leader had recently died in South-Africa. Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo said constituency primaries should not be a do-and-die affair to the extent that the party, which needed unity to win power would get disintegrated. He said a party in power "has many rooms for its supporters and loyal ones and that the most important thing is to come into government". Prof. Mills said each member of the party has something special to offer to the cause of the party and that should be recognized by all adding, "there are some who are good organizers, some good public relations officers, sometimes good singers and no one has monopoly over perfection in society". He called for unity among party executives and asked them to be agents of organization and change so that when power is won they could fight for the welfare of the people as he has always reiterated, saying; "the essence of governance is to seek the welfare of the citizenry.” "Any government which greedily consumes the largest share of the nation's resources leaving peanuts for the large majority has no moral right to govern", Prof. Mills said. Addressing a similar rally at Hohoe, Prof. Mills declared, "God has not finished with me yet. It is God who gives life and takes life, I pray that I live long enough to redeem Ghana from its current socio-economic chaos". Responding to the applause of his teeming supporters at the Roman Catholic Park, Prof Mills pledged that the government of the NDC would mitigate the hardships of the citizenry by putting money into their pockets. He said politics is about seeking the welfare of the people rather engaging in intimidation, vindictiveness, corruption and polarization of the populace. He said his government would develop the tourism potentials of the Volta Region to appreciable standards to enable the people to reap its economic benefits. Prof, Mills said his government would develop the potentials of bamboo into a thriving industry, review the conditions of service of teachers tackle roads construction vigorously and ensure that the revenue from country's crude oil are judiciously used. Dr. Kwabena Adjei, National Chairman of NDC called on members of the party to be wary of detractors and forge a common front towards prosecuting the elections with vim and vigour. Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofoh, National Organizer of the Party said the organization of primaries was a legitimate democratic exercise, which should not generate hostility to the extent of undermining party structures and cohesion. Prof. Mills and his entourage earlier called on Togbega Gabusu VI Paramount Chief of the Gbi traditional area and President of Volta regional house of Chiefs at the Palace. Togbega Gabusu appealed to all politicians to embark on the electioneering campaigns with decency and civility. Accompanying Prof. Mills were high profile functionaries, including Mr Modestus Ahiable, Volta Regional Chairman of the party, Mrs Ama Benyiwa Doe, National Women Organizer and Mr. Elvis Afriyie, deputy General Secretary of the party.
