The long-awaited 11-kilometre Somanya-Kpong Road in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region is undergoing construction by Generals Construction Limited.
The 11-kilometre Somanya-Kpong road was asphalted in 2016 under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress' administration but was destroyed by heavy limestone trucks.

Mr Eric Tetteh, Municipal Chief Executive for Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly said the completion of the road would bring a huge comfort to the residents of Krobo.
He noted that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, saw the road’s terrible impact during his visit to the area and assured the road would be fixed.

The MCE said before the construction, public transport and other smaller cars found it impossible to operate smoothly due to its bad state.
Nene Sakite II, Paramount Chief of Manya Krobo and President of the Eastern Region House of Chiefs earlier appealed to President Nana Akufo-Addo to prioritise the construction of the road at the annual Ngmayem Festival in November 2023.

The paramount chief expressed great concern about the poor condition of the road, stating, "The road network needs immediate attention to prevent further damage."
He emphasized the importance of motorable roads in promoting the local economy, which includes farming, tourism, and business operations.

Mr Yaw Jabaah, a cab driver said that the construction of the road will bring relief to them because he changes his shock absorbers every two weeks.
