A notorious armed robber accused of shooting and killing a police officer at close range has been arrested by the Accra Police.
Enoch Osafo Amakwah alias School Boy, who had eluded previous police attempts to arrest him, was finally nabbed on July 19, 2015.
Addressing the media in Accra, Wednesday Accra Regional Police Commander DCOP Christian Tetteh Yuhono said in 2012 School Boy and his accomplices trailed and snatched a vehicle from a banker and later offered the vehicle for sale at Ashaiman.
"Plain clothed Policemen went to feign interest in the vehicle. Whilst L/Cpl Britwuma was negotiating with him, one of his accomplices noticed that they were policemen and without any provocation, the suspect pulled a pistol from his pubic region and shot the Policeman, Iddi Braimah in the chest. The Police man was rushed to the police hospital but passed away the following day whilst undergoing treatment," DCOP Yuhono said.
According to him, the police later picked up information the suspect and his gang were hiding at Ashaiman but when they went to arrest him, there was an exchange of gunfire which led to the death of one of the accomplices.
One person named Godson Mante, 26, was arrested but School Boy managed to escape.
However on July 19, 2015, he was arrested at his hideout at Adenta.
The police have arrested one more suspect in the Amanfrom armed robbery attack.
Abdulai Ibrahim, 26, was among a gang of robbers who robbed a number of residents of Amanfro on June 29, 2015.
He was smoked out of his hideout at the Buduburam camp yesterday.
This brings to three the number of suspects arrested in the attack. Three more are said to be on the run.
The first two who were put before an Accra Circuit Court presided over by his Lordship Francis Obiri, a High Court Judge sitting as a Circuit Court Judge, convicted and sentenced the two suspects to 35 years each with hard labour.
The police said it is making strenuous efforts to arrest the remaining suspects.
